Changing Rooms | Easton + Combs

October 22, 2012 by bg-martin

Changing Rooms: an experimental environment | Easton + Combs | 2011 CHANGING ROOM redefines boundaries and expected conditions of intimacy while transforming into a subtle spectacle of the expectations and boundaries of intimate experience in the public realm. Expressed as a structural and material veil and suspended from above, the lightweight structural skin dilates along the bottom edge creating oblique visual corridors to the interior as well as passages for the body to move through. The skin culminates in an […]

Celular Clay Multifamiliar Habitation | Saken Narynov

October 18, 2012 by bg-martin

Celular Clay Multifamiliar Habitation | Saken Narynov | 2005-06 Kazakh architect and artist Saken Narynov created a superstructure able to host what we could call an adobe vertical city. In fact, the structure is used as a matrix that can be more or less densely filled with multifamily habitation units. The traditional earth based material thus hybrids with the steel structure in a very unusual and interesting way and the space resulting between the habitation units and the structure is […]

La Voûte de LeFevre | Matter Design Studio

October 13, 2012 by bg-martin

La Voûte de LeFevre is the result of a call for help. This call is simple. It asks architects to cut it out with the addiction to the thin. It begs for an intervention, which came in the form of a one-year fellowship dedicated to experimenting with this request. La Voûte de LeFevre by Matter Design Studio Knowlton School of Architecture, The Ohio State University | 2012 material: Baltic Birch Plywood | size: 15′ X 20′ When posited the task of building […]

Here & There: A Horizontal Project of Manhattan | BERG

October 13, 2012 by bg-martin

Here & There: A Horizontal Project of Manhattan | BERG Map looking downtown from 3rd and 35th. These horizonless maps of Manhattan are made by BERG, a design company based in London. “As the model bends from sideways to top-down in a smooth join, more distant parts of the city are revealed in plan view. The projection connects the viewer’s local environment to remote destinations normally out of sight.”

Quasi Architecture Psuedo Landscapes | Smout Allen

October 11, 2012 by bg-martin

Quasi Architecture Psuedo Landscapes | Smout Allen | 2009 Mark Smout and Laura Allen Nostalgia and wonder permeate our collective perception of the urban and rural landscape that surrounds us. They trigger an emotive rather than analytic response and profound reverence for the complexity of nature.Architecture can be a generative agent for our sensitisation of the environment. As author and architect we provide the prescription of spaces and of spatial experiences, we control the porosity of architecture to the phenomena of […]

Meanders | Giuseppe Randazzo

October 10, 2012 by bg-martin

Meanders | Giuseppe Randazzo | Novastructure | 2011 Meanders is a generative system driven by the interaction of growing agents. The agents are defined by their initial position, a velocity vector (ordered or random), and a constraint boundary (usually a circle), moreover they are able to avoid proximity events with other agents (and their own body too) by means of their bow sensor. However while the bodies fill the available space, an agent may experiencing a kind of ‘blind alley’ […]
